Our Team
The team is composed
of professionals with experience both inside and outside of the
classroom. Our tutors have assisted over
1000 students. We provide academic and test preparation services in Westchester County
and nearby communities.

Tara Bandman
tutors English, SAT Verbal and Writing, and the college essay. She has
been teaching students the ins-and-outs of
the SAT and the college essay
since 1996. She has worked with countless students over the years and
takes pride in having helped kids at all levels achieve their goals. In
addition to tutoring students in SAT preparation,
Tara is a New York and
Connecticut certified English teacher. She currently teaches English
and writing at Ardsley High School in Ardsley, NY. Tara holds a B.A.
from the University of Pennsylvania, an Ed.M. from Harvard University
and most recently an M.A. in English literature from Hunter College. |

Joan Barickman
tutors students from kindergarten through
college: English literature
and writing;
the verbal sections of SAT I and II,
ACT, GRE and MCAT; the verbal and math sections of the SSAT
and
ISEE,
all sections of the GED;
the College Essay;
NY State English Language Arts Regents’
Exam; and Study skills.

She is certified in NY and has taught in both
public and private schools; from 1977 to 2004 she taught English in the
Bedford, NY, public schools. She has also tutored students from public
and private schools for over thirty years; she
has
demonstrated success with all types of learners.
Joan has been recognized nationally and regionally
for creating and using innovative methods of teaching, testing and
teacher training; she was, for example, selected as the NYSAEA Teacher
of the Year and the NIE Outstanding Teacher of Writing. She has also
published several books and numerous articles on teaching and testing. |

Ira Copperman
tutors Math and Chemistry. Since 2004,
Mr. Copperman has led classroom and individual
activities for
PSAT/SAT prep, Regents exams, and SAT subject
matter and advanced
placement tests for more than 100 students.
Prior to his tutoring
activities, Mr. Copperman worked for IBM, Reuters, and as a
consultant in a variety of industries. During this time, he
developed and delivered commercial education programs for groups and
individuals reaching several thousand students. In addition, he
managed a number of technical and project teams responsible for
implementing several large-scale client activities.
Mr. Copperman graduated from
Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, Il., with a BA
in Government. |

Judy
Gartman is a reading/writing tutor and Learning Coach. She
provides an individualized, optimistic approach to developing
reading
strategies from remediation to enrichment.
Judy’s
approach:
Strategies*Making*Active*Readers*Think
teaches
students from ages 5 (pre-kindergarten with readiness needs) to high
school students with study skill problems. With 30 years of
experience, Judy teaches learning strategies and at the same time,
builds self esteem. Teaming with her students’ teachers ensures
success.
Judy is a
caring professional who guides students with low pressure strategies

Judy
started as a classroom teacher, became a parent and teacher trainer
for her company, POP., and began her tutoring practice 20 years ago.
After graduating Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude from Hunter
College in education, Judy received a MA in reading and
certification in Educational Administration. Since that time, Judy
felt her passion was working with students.
As her
students say, “Judy makes it fun! With Judy, the words,
quit and impossible don’t exist!” |

Allan Schneider -
since 2001 has been tutoring Mathematics,
grades 8 through 11, Chemistry, General Science and Physics. He
also prepares students for their SAT/PSAT/ACT Math tests and their Math and
Science Regents exams.

After retiring from the corporate business world
five years ago Allan Schneider began his professional tutoring practice
with a single physics student in the Greenwich Public Library. Today,
after helping over 100 students and with 1000 tutoring hours, he is
bringing his methods and processes to the public through AST.
Prior to tutoring,
he was in technical management at IBM and AT&T. He has a B.S
in Chemical Engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute.

Linda Simon –
Specializes in
tutoring Special Needs Students. She has 32 years of experience as a
Special Education and
Collaboration teacher in
both Elementary and Middle School. She has also served many years as an
education specialist at both Building and District CSE meetings. She is
NYS Certified in Nursery and Elementary (K-6) as well as Special
Education (K-12) and holds a Masters + 60 Credits.
Linda Simon can
provide a wide range of services to students and their parents including:
Special Education Tutoring, Learning Skills Development, preparation for elementary
& middle school New York State Tests (ELA and math), Early Childhood Intervention, Educational Evaluations, IEP Assessment
and Compliance Reviews, as well as Student/Parent Advocacy (and can be
available to attend District Meetings with parents). Linda’s
